    Match Report

ENGLAND'S EASY VICTORY

England beat Belgium on the West Bromwich Albion ground yesterday by four goals to none.

Although England played reasonably well, they did not show convincing form...

Then the visitors were penalized for " hands," but Debie cleared splendidly. The combination of England was altogether too good for the opposing half-backs and backs, and at the end of 17 minutes' play Bradford took a forward pass to score with a long shot...

A quarter of an hour after half-time a neat dribble by Walker and some passing with Bradford resulted in Walker scoring with a low shot. Almost immediately afterwards Bradford ran through and scored England's third goal. Good play on the right wing then led to Walker scoring another goal... - The Times - Tuesday 9th December, 1924

IN OTHER NEWS...

It was on 8 December 1924 that a last-minute reprieve for Billy Smith was denied him on the day before his execution, despite a deputation of local people, including the Lady Mayoress, plus three MPs, appealing directly to the Home Secretary for mercy on account that the crime was committed in a momentary fit of jealous rage and was similar to another recent trial in Hull that reached a verdict of manslaughter. Smith had cut the throat of Elizabeth Bousfield with a razor at the home in Hull that they shared with two other men.
