  Percival Albert Barton
Name Notes Percival A. Barton, confirmed by his death registration, and the FA Yearbook calls him P.A. Barton. His census returns calls him Percival and Percy, born in Edmonton. But born in 1893. The Midlands Electoral Roll of 1945 also call him Percival A..
He is NOT Percival Harry Barton, born in Edmonton August 1895, because he died within the next quarter of registrations, that is, before December 1895.
His middle name is possibly Augustus. Marriage Banns in December 1912 from Lower Edmonton had a Percy Augustus marrying Margaret McKenzie...the marriage did not take place though.
Birth 20 January 1893 at 9 Northumberland Street, Edmonton, Middlesex [registered as Percy, in West Ham, March 1893]. Birthdate confirmed by the 1939 register.
 

According to the 1901 census, the seven year-old Percival, is the fourth child of five to Henry and Louisa (née Banks), living at 25 Union Road, Edmonton. Henry is a builder.

  According to the 1911 census, 18 year-old Percy is an engineer lathe hand at the gasworks. With his younger sister, Louisa, and parents and the Gill's as boarders, they live at 5 Claremont Terrace in Upper Edmonton. The census reveals that Percy is one of eleven children at that three have since died. His father is a general labourer.
Marriage to Lilian Maisie Cotterill  [registered as 'John' in Birmingham, September 1914].
  According to the 1921 census, Percival, a professional athlete (for Birmingham FC) is now married to Lilian May and are living at 37 Mayfield Road in Dalston. They are written in the census as Percival Albert and Lilian May Brown (but definitely the Barton's).

"Formerly a player for Birmingham F.C. and an international back, Percival Albert Barton, licensee of the Woodman Inn, New-street, Stourbridge, successfully defended a charge at Stourbridge yesterday of having permitted drunkenness on his licensed premises. A summons against Mrs. Barton for aiding and abetting was also dismissed." - Birmingham Gazette, Saturday, 5 January 1935
  According to the 1939 register, Percival A., a licensed victualler, and Lilian M. are married, and they live at The Railway Tavern, 132-134 Kyrwicks Lane in Sparkbrook area of Birmingham.
According to the 1931-32 Electoral Roll for Worcestershire, Percival Albert and Lilian Maisie were still at the Woodman Inn, 12 New Street in Stourbridge.
According to the 1945 Midlands Electoral Roll, Percival A. was living alone at the Railway Tavern in Kyrwicks Lane, Sparkbrook in Birmingham.
Death October 1961, aged 68 years nk days [registered as Percival A., in Birmingham, December 1961].

Playing Career
Club(s) Played schoolboy football in North London and played with local sides, Tottenham Thursday FC and Sultan FC. It was Birmingham FC that signed Barton in 1914, before he returned to Edmonton during WW1. He guested with Tottenham Hotspur FC. Despite being courted by clubs such as Sunderland AFC and Burnley FC in the spring of 1923, he left Birmingham in 1931 after 331 league appearances and thirteen goals, when he joined Stourbridge FC of the Birmingham & District League in August 1931. He retired in 1933.

Distinctions A collision between Barton and Hull City AFC's William Henzell ended the latter's playing career on 30 August 1920.
Barton was sent off for Birmingham against Bolton Wanderers FC on 23 September 1922 for kicking Jack Rowley. It appearaed to be a case of mistaken identity, with full-back Jones being the offender.
He was nicknamed the Indiarubber Man by the St. Andrew's supporters, because of his ability to twist and turn.
