Elizabeth (née Morley), living near The New Inn in Pegg's Green, Thringstone. His
father is a coal miner hewer. |

now with three younger brothers and a younger sister, living in Clay Lane
in Pegg's Green, with their parents. His father still a hewer.
According to the phone books, bewteen 1960 and 1963, Joe Bradford (Sports)
ltd, was at 35 Birmingham Road, in Birmingham, he could be contacted at
Sutton Coldfield 2795. |

Joseph is now a professional footballer (for Birmingham FC) and is the
second oldest of the nine children still at home with their parents in
Pegg's Green. |

"George Thomas Davis was remanded in Birmingham to-day, on a charge of
attempting to obtain money by false pretences from Joe Bradford, the
Birmingham international footballer. "Prisoner is alleged to have given
a boy a note to take to Bradford, purporting to come from Harry Hampton,
the former Aston Villa international footballer, asking him to send 30s.
Bradford was suspicious and informed the police."

Evening Post. "FOOTBALLER BEREAVED "Though distressed by
bereavement Joe Bradford, the English International, turned out for
Birmingham at St. Andrew's this afternoon against Aston Villa. His baby,
born on Wednesday, died this morning. "Bradford has two young
daughters, but the death of the third child is a great blow to him because
it was a boy. "Bradford has not been at all fortunate in the matter of
injuries, and to-day's appearance against Villa was his first for some
weeks owing to an ankle injury."

Playing Career |
Club(s) |
Started his football career at the tender age of twelve with his
local side Pegg's Green Victoria FC of the Leicester Senior League. During
which time he had trials with Aston Villa FC and Derby County FC. Ahead of
Leicester City FC, it was
Birmingham FC that signed him on 12 February 1920 for a £125 transfer
fee. He made 414 league matches and scored 249 goals.
Bradford applied, unssuccessfully, for the vacant managerial position at
Leicester City FC in September 1934. Birmingham, in April 1935, decided
not to retain Bradford, so he joined Bristol City FC on 30 May 1935, scoring once in five league
appearances, he retired a year later. |
