Played with Sunderland schools, before
joining Sunderland AFC as an amateur. Playing with Fatfield Juniors FC as
he did. As his family returned to Southampton, Bill signed amateur
forms with Southampton FC in August 1940, signing professionally in August
1945. Before the decade had ended, Bill suffered with serious
pneumonia, but soon returned to represent England. He retired after
227 league appearances, scoring ten times, in 1961. |
