Baptism [before 9 February] 1857 in West Monkton, Somersetshire [registered in Taunton, March 1857].

According to the 1861 census, Robert S. is the third of four children to Robert & Charlotte CAtherine. His father is a magistrate, and they live at Spring Field House in West Monkton.


According to the 1871 census, he lived with his mother, Catherine, and the third of six children, at Easby Hall, Easby, Richmond in North Yorkshire.
