living with their parents at 13 Coleford Road in Attercliffe, Sheffield.
His father is a clerk. The census reveals that another child had
tragically died in childhood. |

and is boarding with Annie Norman at 35 Clements Road in East Ham.

his junior career playing for Atlas and Norfolk Works FC from Sheffield.
He joined Sheffield United FC in August 1912 as Harold Gough's understudy,
which limited his league appearance total to
fifteen. West Ham United FC signed him for a £350 transfer fee
on 10 March 1919. He had already guested for them during WW1, where he
served as a Coldstream Guards. He made 370
league appearances and was handed a free transfer in April 1932.
He signed for Watford FC on 8 June 1932. |
