Began his
career with Prescot Athletic FC, and also played with Skelmersdale United
FC. Both Mercer and Sherratt joined Hull City FC on 22 January 1914 for a
£40 each transfer fee, with an extra £10 payable if either
make the first team. He signed for Sheffield United
FC in a record fee for a British transfer at the time, £4,500, on 13
December 1920. He joined
Shirebrook FC on 26 October 1928. Torquay United FC on 9 June 1929, where he
retired in August 1930. |
