Played schoolboy football, representing West Riding. He played with
Ravensthorpe Albion FC, signing for Huddersfield Town AFC as an amateur in
January 1940. It was not until December 1945 that Metcalfe was made a
professional. And despite a transfer request from Newcastle United FC in
December 1949, Metcalfe went onto play in 434 league matches, scoring 87
goals. He moved to Hull City AFC in June 1958, before retiring in February
1960. |
