Twelve days before the
squad deadline, on 9 May 2002, Sven-Göran Eriksson
picked a provisional 23-man squad for the World Cup Finals that
excluded Danny Murphy, who was on standby. Two days later, Gerrard (groin) picked up an injury. The squad then travelled to
Dubai on 13 May, with Danny Murphy deputising for his club mate. When Eriksson submitted his final
squad list on 21 May with Murphy included. Murphy then fell
awkwardly in training, breaking his foot, and his World Cup place went
to Trevor Sinclair. |
