Club Career |
Club(s) |
Began his
junior career playing with Round Oak Steelworks FC, and moved up into the
Birmingham League with his local side, Cradley Heath FC in 1923, during
which he was one of the juniors who represented Birmingham FC in 1925.
Aston Villa FC signed Tate in April 1925 as an inside-left, moving into
defence in 1927. His Villa Park career was marred by injury. He
made just 180 league appearances and scored twice, before he
joined Brierley Hill Alliance FC on 21 August 1935, playing alongside
Tommy Smart
once more. Tate was appointed as their player-manager on 12 August 1936. A
broken neck in an FA Cup match against Moor Green FC ended his playing
career on 18 September 1937. |
