Began his
career playing with his local side, Swinton FC, moving onto Mexborough FC
in the Midland League, before Burnley FC signed Waterfield as an
outside-left in October 1923 for a £450 transfer fee, being moved to the
'back' position before the end of the season with remarkable results.
After Burnley placed Waterfield on the free transfer list, after
373 league appearances and five goals, Crystal Palace FC signed
him on 13 June 1935, where he appeared in just two league
matches. Before he was signed by Nelson FC on 30 January 1936. |
