Notes
Two Claret players have started at the same time for
England on ten different occasions between 1922 and 1961. Goalkeeper
Jerry Dawson and Bob Kelly started against Scotland, 8 April 1922. John
Hill then started alongside Kelly against Wales, 28 February 1925.
Hill captained England on five occasions in 1927 while
starting alongside his Burnley team-mates. Starting with Arthur Rigby on
three occasions in 1927, against Scotland, Belgium and France, 2 April, 21 and
26 May, and then Louis Page against Ireland and Wales, 22 October and 28
November.
It was not until 1961 before The Clarets put forward two
players in the same starting line-up. John Angus and Brian Miller
started against Austria, 27 May 1961. Ray Pointer and John Connelly then
started together twice, against Wales and Portugal in October 1961.
