Club Career

Club(s) Played schoolboy and junior football and his hometown of Bradford. Joined Bradford (Park Avenue) FC as an amateur in 1939/40, turning professional in March 1942 (176 league appearances, 21 goals). Burnley FC signed Elliott in August 1951 for £23,000 (74 league appearances, 14 goals). Sunderland AFC spent £26,000 for his services in June 1953 (212 league appearances, 26 goals), before ending his playing career with Wisbech Town FC from July 1959 to 1961.

Managerial Career

Club(s) After hanging up his playing boots, Elliott became the national coach of Libya from 1961 to 1963.  He returned to Yorkshire who became the a scout for sheffield Wednesday FC between 1963 and 1964. After which, he was in Germany from 1964, firstly being a coach for the US forces based there, until 1966. He then became the trainer of Royal Daring Club de Bruxelles, from July 1966.  His coaching was used by Sunderland AFC from January 1968 until June 1973. He went on to coach Brann FK of Norway from 1974 to 1978, before returning to Sunderland AFC as a caretaker manager from December 1978 until May 1979.  He left Roker Park and became manager of Darlington FC from June 1979 until June 1983.
