This blue
Umbro jersey will forever be associated with Gordon Banks’ miraculous save from Pele’s
header at the 1970 World Cup final tournament, but it first saw the light of
day, some five years earlier. On its second appearance, in England's last match before the 1966 World Cup final tournament, there
was no colour clash with the regular yellow jersey. Why it was worn on that
occasion is a bit of a mystery.
A white number 1 was worn on the back for the last two of its
appearances, against Netherlands and Brazil.
