January for Lazio to decide whether to release Eriksson to England's
World Cup campaign for the rest of the season.
"We will sit down with president
Sergio Cragnotti and talk about the next step," said Adam Crozier, the
FA's chief executive. If Lazio do not allow Eriksson, who will join
the FA full-time in July, to take time off from club duties to oversee
his next team on a temporary basis, Taylor can start his preparation
and planning.
Sunday, 7 January 2001 -
SS Lazio again lose at home, this time to
SS Napoli 2-1. It is their sixth defeat in their last nine games.
Monday, 8 January 2001 -

Lazio coach after three and a half years. He will start his new job as
England manager tomorrow.

The day after the new manager is introduced to the
media at FA's Soho Square, Eriksson chooses the West Ham
United-Sunderland match as his first scouting match.
Following the match, in an Ispwich hotel room, Eriksson appoints Peter
Taylor as his assistant.
Sunday, 14 January 2001 -

Friday, 23
February 2001 - After spending the last 41 days home
and abroad taking in 25 matches, Sven-Göran Eriksson announces his first England
squad, calling an astonishing 31 players together for the friendly match
against Spain next week. And there was no room for
selection because of injury for Darren
Anderton, Steven Gerrard, Martin Keown, Jamie Redknapp, Trevor Sinclair
or Gareth Southgate. David Batty, Graeme Le Saux, Paul Ince, Paul
Merson, Stuart Pearce or Dennis Wise missed out on selection also.
Gareth Barry, Seth Johnson, Paul Robinson and Alan Smith have been
called into the under-21 squad.
