Diary
Friday, 6 November 2020 - 24 man squad is
announced to face Hungary in the European Championship qualification matches,
and the final two Nations League matches against Denmark and England. Iceland
have already been relegated from Group A.
Monday, 9 November 2020 - As confusion reigns
over whether the match against England will go ahead - with the possibility of
the match changing venue from Wembley to either Albania or Germany because of
the Co-Vid-19 restrictions on Denmark, where Iceland play before arriving in
London next week - the squad are under preparations in the fog at the home of FC
Augsburg, their base for the upcoming European Championship qualification play
off match on Thursday.
Wednesday, 11 November 2020 - Following two days of training in Augsburg,
the squad leave for Budapest.
Thursday, 12 November 2020 - An hour before
Iceland kick-off their play-off against Iceland, it is announced that they will
play their final Nations League match at Wembley next Wednesday. Heartbreak
for Iceland as Hungary score twice in the last two minutes to complete a
stunning win over Iceland to qualify in Euro 2020.
Sunday, 15 November
2020 - As the team spend the morning training at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen,
Head Coach Erik Hamren announced that he is to step down after
the England match.
Monday, 16 November 2020 -
There will be some changes
to the Iceland squad for their
last game of the year against England.
Aron Einar Gunnarsson, Alfreð Finnbogason, Gylfi Þór
Sigurðsson, Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson, Ragnar Sigurðsson, Viðar Örn Kjartansson
will not be with the team against England and the squad now includes Alfons Sampsted,
Jón Dagur Þorsteinsson, Andri Fannar Baldursson, Sveinn Aron Guðjohnsen and Ísak
Bergmann Jóhannesson, who were all in the under-21
squad that played two games in the European Championship qualifiers. Hörður Björgvin Magnússon is suspended for England, where he received his second
caution in the National
League in the game against Denmark.
Tuesday, 17 November 2020 - The Iceland squad
spend their morning session training at Wembley, as it is revealed that the team
will wear black armbands for the match tomorrow night in respect of Erik Hamrén's
father, Per, who died on Sunday night.
