edged with a thick light-blue stripe and a thin dark-blue stripe
within. Embroidered emblem on left breast.

number one on reverse in same font as worn at the 1986 World Cup.
Dark-blue shorts with light-blue seams,
two embroidered white
concentric diamonds on right thigh, with 'umbro' in white

This blue version of
the zig-zag style introduced the previous year, replaced the
green uniform as first-choice,
the first time that a blue jersey had been chosen. It was worn in all games over
a seven-month period, except when England played
a team wearing blue shirts.
Like the green version, the
columns of light and dark blues were positioned differently from game to game so
that every jersey was subtly different.
The photo of the shirt at the top of the page was
provided to us by Simon Shakeshaft, curator of the Neville Evans National Football
Shirt Collection.
