      | Description | | | |
      | Predominantly red shirt with yellow trimmed collar,
green, purple and yellow squares overlapping one another across the right
		half of
the chest, interjected with ENGLAND and FA, large navy-blue England crest
adorning left side of the shirt, layered over with paragraphs of FOOTBALL
ASSOCIATION. Embroidered emblem in the middle of the chest,
with white registered trademark underneath left-hand side of emblem, 'ENGLAND'
in capitalised white lettering below it and 'UMBRO' in large capitalised
white lettering above it. Plain white number one
on back with a navy-blue border. Long red shorts, with
yellow, green and purple squares, overlapping trim down the left seam.
Embroidered emblem on right thigh, with

      'UMBRO' in capitalised white
		lettering below. Red socks with
two green hoops around the middle, with

      'UMBRO' in capitalised yellow
		lettering in-between. |
      | Variations |

		For
the first game in which the kit was worn, the socks had alternate yellow
and green hoops, with red in-between and 'UMBRO' in capitalised white
lettering between the first yellow and green hoops.
		For
the last two games in which the kit was worn, a white number one, with a
navy-blue border, was worn in the centre of the chest, beneath the emblem,
in the same font as on the back of the shirt.

England had logos sewn-on to the upper sleeves for the 1996 European
Championship semi-final with Germany. The 'Euro '96' tournament logo was
on the right arm and the UEFA Fair Play logo was on the left arm.
		For the game
		against Germany, SEAMAN was
printed in capitalised white lettering, with a navy-blue border, above the number
		one on the
		back of the shirt.
	A white number
	one, with
a navy-blue border, in the same font as on the shirt, was worn on the right
thigh of the shorts, above the emblem, for the last two games in which the
	kit was worn. |

       This predominantly
all-red garb was the last of the
multi-coloured kits worn by England's goalkeepers in the 1990s.  After
this kit, which appeared in the Euro '96 semi-final, sanity was thankfully
restored and a more sober and traditional image was portrayed in successive
  uniforms.
  A red jersey had not
been worn by an England 'keeper since 1970.  This kit only ever
  appeared alongside the similarly unpopular
		indigo blue
		kit, which was a
change to the usual policy of only changing the keeper's outfit when there
  was a colour clash.
As with the outfield kit and the yellow
goalkeeper kit, the sock design went through a subtle change for the
tournament. In this case, it was undoubtedly for the better as the
original pair worn against Bulgaria were a ridiculous hooped combination
of red, yellow and green. Against Germany and Georgia they were replaced
with just two green hoops. Not a huge change given the grotesque
appearance of the entire kit (featured in historicalkits.co.uk's book,
'The Worst Football Kits Of All Time').
This kit was also worn in the unofficial
game against Hong Kong Golden Select in May 1996. The socks had already
changed to the 'tournament' design at that stage.
	  The number 22
		shirt above
was issued to Ian Walker for the Euro '96 tournament. Walker's
shirt appears by kind permission of the Neville Evans National Football
Shirt Collection (curator Simon Shakeshaft). |
