Notes
The demise of the Rous Cup following the 1989 edition meant
that, outside wartime, the 1989-1990 season was the first since international play began
in 1872 in which England did not meet Scotland in an official international match.
While
1990 was a busy World Cup year, the series with Scotland did not resume the following
year. Instead, The Football Association launched the England Challenge Cup, which was
contested only once.
