England's 3-1 victory against Team America in the
U.S.A. Bicentennial Cup Tournament of 1976 was an unofficial match because
the opposition consisted of
players of various nationalities drawn from North American Soccer League clubs and
included players who had performed for other
national teams. It has been disregarded in the Adjusted Totals row, which
reflects only official matches.
England's 1-0
loss to Mexico was part of both the Ciudad de México and the Azteca
2000 tournaments in 1985. It is counted only once in both the All
and the Adjusted
Totals rows.
To and including
the U.S. Cup Tournament of 1993, two points were awarded for a win and one
for a draw. In the later tournaments, a win earned three points and
a draw one. The table's points averages have been calculated on the
basis of two points for a win for all tournaments in order to allow
comparison between tournaments. The numbers which represent
conversions from three points per win to two points per win have been
bracketed. In the Hassan II International Cup Tournament of
1998, an idiosyncratic points scoring system based on penalty kicks
shootouts was used for matches drawn at the end of regulation time.
That unusual points scoring method has
been disregarded for purpose of this table.
