Notes |
It was a
significant moment in the history of Irish football as it was the last
time that the (Northern) Irish Football Association entered a team
featuring players born in both Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland.
Scottish FA insisted that they would only enter the World Cup
Finals if they won their group/ Home Championship outright and even
though they finished second, the Scottish FA declined the opportunity
to travel to the World Cup finals. FIFA subsequently offered their
place to France, the runners-up of Group 3 and the southern version of
Ireland (FAI), the runners-up of Group 5. Both teams also
declined the invitation.
