Friday, 30 May 1958 - The Russian Committee have selected their 22 players to represent them during the 1958 World Cup Finals in Sweden. The surprise exclusion is Eduard Streltsov, who has also been suspended, and Mikhail Ogonkov, the only other member of the team that faced England two weeks ago not to make the final party.

Sunday, 1 June 1958 - The Russian party arrive in Sweden.

Friday, 6 June 1958 -
Ignor Netto, honored Master of Soviet Sport, captain of the USSR team, and probably the country's greatest footballer, missed training today and is unlikely to face England on Sunday. He is still suffering with the injury that he picked up the last time the two countries met on 18 May.

Sunday, 8 June 1958 - England 2 USSR 2 -
"England drew with the Soviet Union after trailing 0-1 at halftime and being two goals down after 55 minutes. It was a hectic contest in which the Russians were repeatedly penalised for rough lay. England equalised with only six minutes to go, from the penalty spot."

Wednesday, 11 June 1958 - USSR 2 Austria 0 - The Ivanov's score Russia's goals to put them top of the Pool 4 table alongside Brazil. Lev Yashin saved a 57th minute Austrian penalty.

Sunday, 15 June 1958 - Brazil 2 USSR 0 - Vavá's two goals ensure Brazil qualify for the next stage of the World Cup, whereas Russia, who have an identical record with England, must face-off again on Tuesday night.
