Sunday, 8 June 1958 - Brazil 3 Austria 0 -- Brazil defeated Austria with three goals, after dominating the first half, with a goal from Mazzola in the 37th minute. They went further in the lead in Nilton Santos scored five minutes after the break and Mazzola scored his second five minutes from the end. The result puts Brazil on top of the early table.

Wednesday, 11 June 1958 - USSR 2 Austria 0 - Russia coasted home 2-0 against Austria, but had goalkeeper Lev Yashin to thank. Twelve minutes into the second half, with Russia leading 1-0, he brilliantly saved a penalty kick.
