Friday, 25 September 2020 - Belgium will play against Ivory Coast and not New Zealand in a friendly match in Brussels on 8 October. New Zealand has had to cancel due to the organisational problems related to the strict Covid-19 measures. "We are incredibly disappointed to be in this position, but from the outset our first priority was our players", says Andrew Pragnell, CEO of the New Zealand Football Association. "As it currently stands, we are unable to get enough of our players to the game and back to their respective countries without major disruptions to their domestic seasons." With Ivory Coast (60th in the FIFA-ranking) , the Red Devils will compete against a stronger opponent than New Zealand (121st). National team manager Roberto Martínez feels sorry for New Zealand being forced to cancel their trip, but is happy with Ivory Coast as a replacement.

Wednesday, 30 September 2020 - Roberto Martinez has named 33-man squad for the trio of internationals coming up next week against Côte D’Ivoire, England and Iceland.

Injury plagued Eden Hazard will in all likelihood miss out again for Belgium when they play three internationals in October after his club Real Madrid said he had suffered a new injury setback. Real dashed hopes of Hazard returning to action in Wednesday’s La Liga game against Real Valladolid with a statement saying he sustained a muscle injury, leaving his participation with Belgium next week in doubt. Roberto Martinez said Hazard would need to have played "some game time" for Real on Wednesday or in Sunday’s match at Levante in order to join up with his country’s squad for the trio of internationals. But that was quickly dashed when Hazard injured a muscle in his right leg on Wednesday. Real did not say how long he would be out for, although Spanish newspaper Marca said he would be unable to play for between three and four weeks.

Monday, 5 October 2020 - Koen Casteels has left the squad to return home to be at the birth of his child, he was replaced by Davy Roef.

Wednesday, 7 October 2020 - Nacer Chadli has returned to his club as he was deemed unfit. Hendrik Van Crombrugge has also left the squad, to return home after the birth of his child, with Jens Teunckens coming in from the U21 set-up as his replacement. Van Crombrugge eventually returned before the match started anden made his debut, but then left permanently after that match.

Thursday, 8 October 2020 - A late equaliser from the penalty spot earned
Côte D’Ivoire a 1-1 draw with a second-string Belgium side, ending a run of 12 successive victories for the top team in the world rankings. Michy Batshuayi converted from close range to give Belgium a 53rd-minute lead but Franck Kessie equalised for the visitors from the spot with four minutes remaining. The Belgians rested almost all their regulars ahead of Sunday's Nations League clash against England but went ahead when Batshuayi converted from point-blank range at the second attempt after being set up by Alexis Saelemakers, one of five debutants used by coach Roberto Martinez. Substitute goalkeeper Hendrick Van Crombrugge, who rejoined the squad hours before kick-off after the birth of his child this week and replace Simon Mignolet to earn his first cap, made a reflex stop to deny Nicolas Pepe an equaliser after Wilfried Zaha had cleverly set him up. Zaha continued to trouble the home defence, however, and was fouled by debutant Sebastiaan Bornauw in the box, leading to Côte D’Ivoire's late penalty. It was a first international in 11 months for the African side who next play Japan in Utrecht on Tuesday.
Youngsters Sebastiaan Bornauw, Alexis Saelemaekers and Zinho Vanheusden left after the match to join the U21 squad. Hendrick Van Crombrugge has also returned home.

Friday, 9 October 2020 - Thibaut Courtois has been ruled out Belgium's clash with England. It was confirmed that Courtois had left the Belgian camp before yesterday's friendly, with a hip injury. Martinez had already lost Hendrik Van Crombrugge of Anderlecht and Wolfsburg's Koen Casteels.
Following the return to the under-21 set-up for Jens Teunckens, Blackburn Rovers' goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski has been called up to the squad for their Nations League double header. The 27 year old has been a revelation since his move from AA Gent last month. He has kept three clean sheets in his four league games, which has been enough to impress Roberto Martinez. The uncapped Kaminski was last called up by the national team six years ago.

Saturday, 10 October 2020 - Napoli star Dries Mertens will not be part of the Belgium squad for tomorrow’s Nations League match against England. The forward had to remain in quarantine with the rest of his club teammates following a travel order ban from the local health authority last week. Although only Piotr Zielinski and Eljif Elmas tested positive for CoVid19, none of the other players in the Napoli squad have since contracted Coronavirus. According to Nieuwsblad, Mertens won’t be released from quarantine in time to meet up with the Belgium squad in London. Inter have had five positive cases in their squad, but Romelu Lukaku is available to play for the Red Devils.
