Diary
Monday, 21 May 2018 -
Roberto Martinez has named fifteen Premier
League players in an initial squad of 28 with Chelsea's Eden Hazard set to
captain the side in Russia this summer. He is joined by teammates Thibaut
Courtois and Michy Batshuayi, who makes it despite a late season injury scare
while on loan at Borussia Dortmund, and Manchester City title winners Kevin de
Bruyne and Vincent Kompany. Tottenham trio Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and
Mousa Dembele are in but there's no place for Roma's Radja Nainggolan in a
significant surprise. "Radja is a top player," Martinez told a news conference,
acknowledging Nainggolan's key role in Roma's run to the Champions League
semi-finals, but saying he could not offer him a similar place in a Belgian side
he described as more offensive. Coach and player had an "honest" discussion
after Martinez flew to Rome on Sunday to break the news. "I don't think Radja is
a player to be used in a small role," Martinez said when asked about
Nainggolan's reported willingness to go with the squad to Russia "even as a
goalkeeper". "The reason that Radja's not in the squad is purely a tactical
decision," he added. Within hours of the news being announced
Nainggolan immediately took to Instagram to confirm that he would no longer be
available for selection following Martinez's decision.

Tuesday, 22 May 2018 - Ten players arrive for
training at the Belgianfootball centre in Tubize. Alderweireld, Batshuayi,
Benteke, Chadli, De Bruyne, Dembele, Thorgan Hazard, Kabasele, Kompany and
Vertonghen.
  Saturday, 2 June 2018 -
Begium 0 Portugal 0:
Vincent Kompany suffered a groin problem and will have a
scan tomorrow to check the extent of the damage. The Manchester City captain
left the picth after ten minutes, following a challenge on Gelson Martins. Jan
Vertonghen made history by becoming the first Belgian player to reach hundred
appearances. He was also the closest on goal, with a second half shot that was
tipped over the bar.
  Monday, 4 June 2018 -
Roberto Martinez has announced his list of 23 players that he is taking to
Russia to represent Russia. Defender Vincent Kompany has been named, despite
being an injury doubt - but Christian Benteke misses out. Martinez said he will
make a decision on the centre-back's fitness closer to their opening match. He
also said that dropping Benteke was the 'toughest decision' he has had to make.
Martinez can call up a replacement up up until 24 hours before the Panama match.
Adnan Januzaj keeps his place, whereas goalkeeper Matz Sels, defenders Christian
Kabasele and Jordan Lukaku are dropped. Laurent Ciman is placed on standby.
The third week of training begins with notable exclusions. Vincent Kompany,
Yannick Carrasco, Kevin De Bruyne, Thomas Vermaelen and Jan Vertonghen are all
working on individual fitness programs indoors.

Wednesday, 6 June 2018 - An inspired first
half performance from Eden Hazard guided Belgium in a victory over Egypt. Hazard
scored their second goal while Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini also struck.
 Monday, 11 June 2018 -
Belgium 4 Costa
Rica 1:
  Monday, 18 June 2018 - Belgium
win their opening World Cup match against Panama. Romelu Lukaka score twice
after Mertens sublime strike put the Red Devils ahead.

Saturday, 23 June 2018 - Belgium win the
second of their group matches against Tunisia at Spartak Stadium. Lukaku scores
twice once more, along with two from captain Eden Hazard, and a last minute goal
from Batshuayi, ensures the Red Devils 5-2 victory over Tunisia.

Monday, 25 June 2018 - The Belgium squad have
a couple of injury worries. Captain Eden Hazard has a calf injury, which is not
considered serious, and Dries Mertens, has an ankle knock, also not considered
serious. However, Romelu Lukaku's ankle ligament injury will not be known until
after a scan he is to undergo within the next 48 hours. Good news though, as
both Vincent Kompany and Thomas Vermaelen have been declared as fully fit.
 Tuesday, 26 June 2018 - Romelu Lukaku
misses training for a second day. He has had a scan on the "external ligament"
damage to his left foot and Martinez says the striker requires another 24-48
hours to return to full training but has not been ruled out of featuring against
England. Eden Hazard was present for training at Belgium's base in Dedovsk.
There have been reports that Martinez could make several changes to his starting
line-up for the match against England. Kevin De Bruyne, Jan Vertonghen and
Thomas Meunier are in danger of missing their last-16 match if they pick up a
second booking on Thursday and could be held back.

Thursday, 28 June 2018 - Roberto Martinez
makes nine changes, but still manages to beat England by a single goal, ensuring
that his Belgian side win the group.
