Diary

Tuesday, 4 May 2021 - Teams will be allowed to select a 26-player squad instead of 23 at this summer's delayed European Championship Finals. The change has been implemented to lessen the load on players after a club season compressed because of the coronavirus pandemic. It will also help managers adapt if outbreaks occur during the tournament.

Wednesday, 19 May 2021 - Franco Foda has announced a provisional 30-man squad for the European Championship Finals.

Monday, 24 May 2021 - Foda had named his 26-man squad that i wishes to take into the Finals tournament next month, although their is still time to make changes. The four that were cut were goalkeeper Heinz Lindner, defender Phillipp Mwene, midfielder Husein Balić and forward Adrian Grbic.
Uncapped goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann is the only English representative, having helped Watford FC gain promotion to the Premier League from the Championship. Marko Arnautović was a West Ham United player before leaving for China.

Thursday, 27 May 2021 - The friendly match between England and Austria has been given the green light to take place at Middlesbrough on 2 June. The ÖFB selectors have received special permission from the Austrian government to return to their country without the need to quarantine. "I would like to thank the Vice Chancellor and Sports Minister Werner Kogler, as well as the Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein for their constructive approach and the quick finding of a solution. The team's trip to an international match as part of their preparations for the Euro's has been classified as being of national interest. In addition, the team is in any case in a 'bubble' with no direct contact to outsiders and are in hotel quarantine. All team members are tested regularly. I am very happy that that framework could be clarified with the politicians and the authorities so quickly and that we can now focus on the game", says the ÖFB President Dr. Leo Windtner.
Since Tuesday, the UK has been one of the virus variant areas ('B2') according to the CoVid19 Entry Regulation. People entering from the the UK must go into quarantine upon entry.

Friday, 28 May 2021 - The Austrian squad start arriving and have their first training camp in the Olympiaregion in Seefeld-in-Tirol, in the heart of the Tyrolean Alps.

Tuesday, 1 June 2021 - The Austrian team are travelling to Middlesbrough without Valentino Lazaro. The 25 year old would have to go into quarantine for several days as he was abroad for training before joining up with the Austrian squad. Lazaro completed training sessions with Romelu Lukaku at the NAS Sports Complex in Dubai at the end of the playing season.  He was told then he would not have to quarantine. However, in view of the isolated travel activity and the close-knit testing of the team, the ÖFB failed in obtaining a special permit for him. Until the team return on Thursday, Lazaro will train with the under-21's in Burgenland.

Wednesday, 2 June 2021 - The Austrian team spend the early part of Match day training at Middlesbrough FC's Riverside Stadium. The afternoon is spent training at The Brewery Field, the home ground of Spennymoor Town FC.
