L'�quipe, the influential daily French sports newspaper selects a world all-star team each year.

L'�quipe World Team of the Year 2001

One England player was named to l'�quipe's world team of the year for 2001.  Michael Owen topped the ranking of strikers ahead of Thierry Henry, David Trezeguet and Raul.  David Beckham finished fourth in the ranking of playmakers, behind Zinedine Zidane, Francesco Totti and Robert Pires and ahead of fifth-place Figo.  None of the three finalists for FIFA's Player of the Year award--Figo, Beckham and Raul--were on l'�quipe's world team.
