Notes

The FIFA Player of the Year award winner, inaugurated in 1991, is chosen by vote of national team coaches.  England players have placed in the top three five times, but have yet to win it.  David Beckham has been runner-up twice, Frank Lampard once.  Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have each finished third in the voting.
