Only Southgate was victorious on his 94th outing, a 3-0 victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina. Robson's men were playing in  the 1990 World Cup Final semi-final, enduring a 1-1 extra-time draw against West Germany. Winterbottom's team returned to Europe for the first time since the Munich Disaster, and were thrashed 5-0 by Yugoslavia and Ramsey's team began the new year with a 1-3 defeat to West Germany.
