Began his
youth football with Tooting & Mitcham United juniors FC at the age of
twelve. He joined the parent club as a seventeen year old.
After 45 league matches and 33 goals,
on 28 October 2008, Antonio signed with Reading FC for an undisclosed fee.
Returned to Tooting on loan on 9 January 2009,
and scored another seven goals in nine Isthmian League appearances before
being recalled. On 19 February, he was sent out on loan to
Cheltenham Town FC until the end of the season. After returning to
Reading, Antonio then spent the rest of the season, from 5
October 2009, on loan at Southampton
FC. Signed on loan with Colchester United FC for two
months on 15 August 2011. On 21 February 2012, Antonio was again loaned out, as an emergency, to
Sheffield Wednesday FC, followed by a
permanent transfer on 6 August 2012. Exactly two years later, on 6 August 2014, he signed with Nottingham Forest FC
for £1½ million.
The following summer, Antonio was subject to bids from
West Bromwich Albion FC and Derby County FC, but it was West
Ham United FC, on 1 September 2015, who won the bid, offering
£7 million and Matt Jarvis in a season long loan deal in
return. He missed
the end of 2016-17 season following a 'significant' injury. |
