Club Career

Club(s) Part-educated at FA Lilleshall Centre of Excellence, Campbell had a brief spell with West Ham United FC before joining and signing professional forms with Tottenham Hotspur FC on 23 September 1992. After 295 league appearances and ten goals, Campbell decided to leave White Hart Lane as his contract had expired.  He surprised many by his choice of new club, Arsenal FC, whom he signed for on 3 July 2001. Despite his success at Highbury (135 league appearances and eight goals), Campbell left on 8 July 2006, seeking a fresh challenge. That came a month later, 8 August, when Campbell signed for Portsmouth FC, where he played a further 95 league appearances and one goal. He left Fratton Park after their relegation from the Premier League and financial difficulties. He rejoined Sven-Göran Eriksson at League Two side Notts County FC in a high profile signing. His five-year contract ended after one league match against Morecambe FC. He left three days later on 22 September 2009. It was apparent that Notts County could not pay Campbell's wages, or anyone else's for that matter.  Sol could not play for another club until the January 2010 transfer window, so in order to retain match fitness, Arsene Wenger invited him to train with Arsenal in October 2009. His time training was an apparent success because he signed again for the Gunners on 15 January 2010 and another eleven league appearances soon followed. On 28 July 2010, Campbell turned down the chance to join The Celtic FC and instead joined Newcastle United FC on a season's contract, he left Newcastle United on 25 May 2011 after only eight league appearances and an injury-plagued season. On 14 July 2011, Campbell, once again, joined Arsenal FC on their pre-season training regime, in a bid to keep fit for a new club.
