Club Career

Club(s) Played schoolboy football in Essex before playing his junior football with Chase Cross United FC, and became a West Ham United FC apprentice in May 1981, turning professional on 1 September 1982 and going on to play 212 league appearances and scoring 92 goals. Joined Everton FC on 25 July 1988, for £2.2 million, a new British transfer record. He scored 72 goals in 184 Football League/Premier League appearances. He re-signed for West Ham United FC on 7 September 1994 and he made another 67 Premier League, scoring 23 goals. On 3 March 1997, he signed for Selangor FA, making 24 Liga-M appearances, scoring 14 goals. Returned to the Premier League with Leicester City FC on 14 August 1997 for ½million and made another 85 league appearances, scoring 27, during which time he was loaned to Birmingham City FC on 14 November 1997, scoring once in five Football League outings. Upon his release on 11 September 2000, Cottee signed as a player-coach and played seven league appearances for Norwich City FC, scoring once. He was released on 31 October and he went to Barnet FC as player-manager, scoring nine in sixteen league appearances, he resigned on 16 March 2001 and a week later, finished the season at Millwall FC, playing twice, before retiring.
