Substitutes Steve Bull and Paul Gascoigne had double reason for celebrations as England powered to a 2-0 victory in this Rous Cup match. Pride of Wolves Bull, the first Third Division player capped since Peter Taylor in 1976, marked his debut with an eightieth minute goal to add to Chris Waddle's twentieth minute strike. Gascoigne came on two minutes before Bull's goal on what was his twenty-second birthday.  England were flattered by the final scoreline against a lively Scottish team that missed a succession of scoring chances from close range.
