  Frederick Samuel Fox
Birth Tuesday, 22 November 1898 in Highworth, near Swindon, Wiltshire [registered in Highworth, December 1898]. His service records state Fox was born on 4 November, however, his 1939 register and history books state the 22nd.

 

According to the 1901 census, Frederick is the only child to Samuel and Alice. His father is a railway shearing machinist. They live at 9 Beatrice Street in Swindon.

 

According to the 1911 census, and still the only child, Frederick is a scholar, while his father is a 'machineman shearing iron, etc.'. They live at 75 Roseberry Street in Swindon.
According to his seamen records, Fox, a fitter & turner, engaged with the Royal Navy Air Service on 24 January 1917, serving with them until 31 March 1918. Serving at President II, a stone frigate in Crystal Palace, Cranwell and then Kingsnorth, then serving on board the Daedalus, a depot ship, from 1 July 1917.

  According to the 1921 census, Frederick is living at home with his parents and a boarder at 75 Roseberry Street. He is a fitter & turner.
Marriage to Florence L.M. Hampton [registered in Richmond, June 1926]. They had one child, Stuart S.E. (b.10 July 1927).
  According to the 1939 register, Frederick S., a licensed victualler, is married to Florence L.M., and living at The Hope Inn, 1 Bodmin Street in Truro, along with a son, Stuart, and his other-in-law, Florence M.
Death Wednesday, 15 May 1968 in High Wycombe, aged 69 years 175 days [registered in Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, June 1968].

Playing Career

Club(s) Played junior football in Swindon before joining Swindon Town FC during WW1. After the war, he was playing with Abertillery FC during 1920-21, before signing with Preston North End FC on 15 August 1921. He made just three league appearances before being transferred to Gillingham FC in July 1922. After 106 league appearances, he was placed on the ransfer list in March 1925, and joined Millwall Athletic FC in April 1925. After just 28 league outings, Halifax Town AFC signed Fox on 21 June 1927, where he made another thirteen league appearances. Brentford AFC signed Fox on transfer deadline day, 15 March 1928, making 74 league appearances. In September 1931, Fox signed on with Truro CC, as he obtained the license of The Hope Inn. This was followed up on 20 October, when Cornish Senior League side, Truro City FC signed him.
