Began his youth career at the Reading FC Youth Academy at the
age of nine for six years. He had unsuccessful trials at AFC Bournemouth
and Millwall FC. In mid-2010, Mawson then joined up with the Brentford FC
Youth and Development teams, signing a professional contract in April
2012. During 2012-13, he was sent out on loan. Conference South's
Maidenhead United FC for an initial month from December 2012, then the
remainder of the season from February, making nine league
appearances. From 29 October 2013, he returned to United,
making three more league appearances, before being recalled. On 28
November 2013, Mawson joined the Conference Premier when Luton Town AFC
signed him for a month's loan deal, making just one league
appearance. On 31 January 2014, Mawson returned to the Conference
Premier when Welling United FC signed him on loan for the rest of the
season. He scored his first goal among the nine league outings.
The following season, he was sent out again, on 9 August 2014, to Wycombe
Wanderers FC, initially for a month, then for three, then for the whole
season.
After not renewing his contract with The Bee's, Mawson signed with
Barnsley FC on 30 June 2015. He joined Swansea City
FC on 30 August 2016 for £5½ million transfer fee, up until
he signed for Fulham FC on 2 August 2018. He was then allowed to leave on
loan for the season on 6 September 2020, Bristol City FC being the
recipient club. After failing to cement any place at Craven Cottage, he
was released and he trained back at Wycombe Wanders FC, with whom he
signed a one-year contract on 11 August 2022. Mawson announced his
retirement from the game on 15 February 2023. |
