nine-month old Arthur is the youngest of four children, two daughters,
then two sons, to Arthur and Scotswoman, Jane (née Berry), They live at 39
Cromwell Street in Gorton. His father is a draper's clerk. His
school admission records confirmed his address at 39 Cromwell Street,
attending Armitage Road School between 16 July 1907 and 19 July 1909. |

Arthur now has a younger brother and is one of five, all stil at home with
their parents, still at 39 Cromwell Street. His father is still a draper's
ledger. |

1921 census, Arthur, now a professional footballer (for Bradford City FC),
is the third of four children still at home with their parents now at 235
Clowes Street in West Gorton. |

Playing Career |
Club(s) |
Played his
junior football as a goalkeeper in the Manchester district before joining
Stockport County FC and then Crewe Alexandra FC in 1919, where he was
converted from goalkeeper to outside-left. Bradford City FC signed Rigby
on 3 March 1921 for £1200. Years later, Sheffield Wednesday FC attempted
to obtain the signature of Rigby in March 1925, even offering Norman Winn
in the deal. However, after 121 league appearances and 21 goals,
Blackburn Rovers FC paid a £2500 transfer fee for Rigby on 23 April 1925
and also arranged a friendly match, which was played on 29 April 1926.
Rigby scored 42 goals in 156 league outings. On 22
November 1929, Everton FC then signed him for £2000. After
scoring eleven goals in 42 league appearances, Middlesbrough FC
obtained two players from Goodison Park on 6 May 1932, Rigby and George
Martin. Then Clapton Orient FC signed Rigby on 18 August 1933. He returned
to Crewe Alexandra FC on 9 August 1935, retiring at the end of the 1936-37
season. |
