IN OTHER NEWS...
It was on 21 May 1927
that Captain Charles Lindbergh became the first man to fly a plane
non-stop from the United States to mainland Europe, and the first person
to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Leaving from New York, he arrived
at Le Bourget, seven miles from Paris, 33 hours and 38 minutes later. He
was welcomed by a crowd of 150,000 people and his achievement made him
an overnight sensation, winning a $25,000 prize. With so much public
interest worldwide he was credited with starting a boom in the aviation
industry and making air travel popular.
