Birth 22 June 1903 in West Mickley, Stocksfield, Northumberland [registered in Hexham, September 1903].
 

According to the 1911 census, George is the youngest of the five children (the youngest son) to George and Mary, they had ten children, three of which had died, up until this point. His father is a hewer in the coal mines. They live in West Mickley.

  According to the 1921 census, George is a miner at West Mickley colliery and the youngest of four children living at home at 4 Elm Street in West Mickley with their widowed mother.
Marriage to Annie Bell [registered in Hexham, December 1925]
  According to the 1939 register, George is the manager of a public house, married to Annie. They live at The Star, at 86 Aston Road North in the Aston area of Birmingham, with one 17 year old servant, Sophia Bell.
Death 10 June 1948 at 1532 Stratford Road, Halls Green, Birmingham, aged 44 years 355 days [registered in Birmingham, Warwickshire, June 1948]. Died at his home following a long illness. Left £492 8s. 4d. to his widow Annie.
Funeral 14 June 1948 in Robin Hood Cemetery, Shirley area of Solihull

Playing Career

Club(s) Began his career with Mickley Colliery FC of the Northern Alliance, from where he joined Huddersfield Town FC in May 1921. After 213 league appearances and 142 goals, on 17 August 1929, Brown joined Aston Villa FC for a £5000 transfer fee and returned 116 league appearances with 79 goals. Burnley FC then paid £1400 for him on 4 October 1934 and he scored another 24 goals in 35 league appearances. Leeds United AFC then paid £3100 on 12 September 1935, making another 37 league appearances, scoring nineteen times. He then joined Darlington FC as a player-manager on 15 October 1936 until 17 October 1938, he made 44 league appearances, scoring twelve goals, until his resignation
