According to the 1911 census, Frederick is the youngest of four children, to Florence and their widowed father, William Henry, a hewer in the coal mine, living at Lucas Cottages, Dronfield Woodhouses in Sheffield. The census states that they are in the county of Derbyshire.

 

According to the 1921 census, Frederick Roy is now a professional footballer (for Huddersfield Town FC) and is one of three children still at home with their father now at Kynes Cottage in Dronfield Woodhouse .

Marriage to Edith Clay, on 15 June 1926, Huddersfield [registered in Huddersfield, June 1926]. They honeymooned in Douglas, Isle of Man.

According to Passenger Lists, Frederick R. Goodall was a Trainer of Huddersfield Town AFC, and left the Port of Liverpool, bound for Montreal, Canada, on 7 May 1955, on the Empress of Scotland. His address was stated as Oakes Road South in the Oakes area of Huddersfield.

Death 19 January 1982 in Huddersfield, aged 79 years 19 days [registered in Huddersfield, March 1982].

Playing Career

Club(s) Played for his local junior side, Dronfield Woodhouse FC, before joining Huddersfield Town AFC on 29 January 1921. Despite a rumoured interest from Arsenal FC in November 1930, Goodall went on to play in 403 league matches, and scored nineteen goals, Goodall retired from the game on 11 May 1937 to take up a position with Nottingham Forest FC, as their trainer.

Management Career

Club(s) Goodall cut his teeth in coaching by being the trainer at Nottingham Forest FC from 11 May 1937, where he remained until 1944. He became the secretary/manager at Mansfield Town FC from 16 May 1945, effective upon his release from the Army, until his resignation on 25 April 1949. He was one of the ten men interviewed for the Newcastle United FC manager's job in May 1947, the job going to George Martin. Goodall returned to Leeds Road on 13 August 1949 as the Huddersfield Town AFC trainer. He was the assistant trainer from October 1964 until the end of that season, after which he retired.
