Chesterfield led the northern section by four points
from Tranmere Rovers. They won twelve of their first 13 games, but it
would not be enough to win promotion straight back to the second
division, after the previous season's relegation. Exeter City led the
southern section by a point from Queen's Park Rangers, who had a game
in hand, and Crystal Palace.

It was on 14 October 1933 that Germany informed the Geneva
Disarmament Conference that they were withdrawing from the League of
Nations after Hitler's request to increase its military capability was
refused by the other members.
