Playing Career


Club(s)
Played schools football before joining Manchester United FC as an apprentice in 1963, turning professional in May 1965. After a failed transfer request in February 1969, Rimmer joined Swansea City FC on a loan deal on 30 October 1973, intially for a month, but remained until Arsenal FC signed him on a 'three-week trial' on 18 February. Signed permanently a month later, 19 March, in a £45,000 deal. Joined Aston Villa FC on 12 August 1977 for £70,000. A return to Swansea City FC followed on 27 July 1983, in a fee totalling £35,000, despite a £40,000 offer from Coventry City FC on the table. Norman Hunter attempted to bring Rimmer to Rotherham Town FC in the 1985 summer. Rimmer remained in Wales to be released at the end of the following season on a free transfer. He joined Maltese outfit Ħamrun Spartans, before he returned to join Luton Town FC on 9 October 1986.

One he hung up his gloves, Rimmer became a goalkeeper coach for Swansea City FC, with two spells as caretaker manager in December 1995 and February 1996.
