Variations
  • Dave Beasant wore number 13 on replacing Shilton for the second half.

Appearances

0.5 - Dave Beasant, Peter Shilton

  • Beasant's was his second and last appearance for England, both of which were as half-time substitutions for Shilton in consecutive games at Wembley.  He did not concede a goal in the two halves.

For one game only, out went the zig-zag style goalkeepers' uniforms and in came a grey shirt, reviving the silver shorts and grey socks of the kit worn by Shilton in the famous 'Hand of God' encounter with Diego Maradona and Argentina in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final, with a subtle difference (apart from the squad number!): the padded seams had disappeared (perhaps the reason Chris Woods was loathe to wear them).

It was replaced by a new yellow kit in the New Year, in the run-up to the 1990 World Cup.
