"Oddly enough, this wasn't the only instance of me being issued with a jersey that was the same colour as the opposition's shirts.  In 1984 [ed-1989] I played for England against Scotland at Hampden.  Arriving in the dressing room an hour or so before kick-off I was taken aback to see the kit I had been issued contained a dark blue jersey. I pointed out to Bobby Robson that I couldn't wear it because Scotland would be in their traditional shirts of dark blue.  No alternative jersey could be found, and so in the end I walked out at Hampden alongside the Scotland goalkeeper, Jim Leighton, the pair of us sporting yellow goalkeeper's jerseys complete with Scotland badge on the breast.  That must be the only instance of an England goalkeeper wearing a Scotland shirt when playing against Scotland. It was pointless me swapping shirts with Jim after that game!" - Peter Shilton, courtesy of Bob Dooley
