Bukta's blue
change shirt, unchanged from the previous Umbro design, was worn against
Brazil on each of its first three appearances. Up until 1964, Brazil and
Sweden were the only countries causing England's goalkeeper to wear a change
colour, but the Netherlands, then Romania and, later, Australia, were added to a
growing list of opponents in yellow, orange or gold shirts, though, by 1984,
England were experimenting with other colours for their goalkeeping tops.
This
shirt
only appeared on four occasions, but was worn by three different 'keepers.
Ron Springett wore a white number one on the back for
its first appearance, against Brazil, whilst its second appearance included
the F.A.'s Centenary emblem on the left breast, as sported by Gordon Banks
(top right). Tony Waiters wore the shirt on its two remaining appearances,
including in Brazil (top left).
