 The blue Umbro
Aertex shirt will forever be associated with Gordon Banks' miraculous save from Pele's
header at the 1970 World Cup final tournament, but it first appeared in a
		heavier material, probably cotton.
A white number one was worn on the back for the last two of its
  appearances, against Netherlands and Brazil.

On its second appearance, in England's last match before the 1966 World Cup final tournament, there
was no colour clash with the regular yellow shirt. Why it was worn on that
occasion is a bit of a mystery.
The Aertex shirt pictured above (second left)
was issued to Alan Stevenson for an Under-23 international in 1973 and is
part of the National Football Shirt Collection at the

England Match Shirts website (curator Simon Shakeshaft). |
