This
pale blue shirt was launched on 4 February 2008
alongside England's new away kit, though it was to be used as first
choice. Two days later, Fabio Capello's reign as England's coach began.
Following the previous autumn's European
Championship debacle, Capello was quite clear that he was going to
reinstate 37-year-old David James as England's number one, but over the
course of the year he also gave opportunities to three other 'keepers,
including Scott Carson, who had been at fault during England's exit from
the European Championship. Unfortunately, Carson's return in Berlin was
blighted by a mix-up with John Terry which led to Germany's equaliser.
