As QPR secured the title with six games to spare, the frantic scramble for the runners-up spot continued. Seventh-placed Middlesbrough lost for the fourth time in five games, yet it was they who came from nowhere by taking eleven out of the twelve points available to them, and clinched their immediate return following the previous year's relegation.
