    Match Report by Norman Giller

England spurted into the lead with a third minute goal from Denis Tueart, but finished with chants of 'Rubbish' ringing in their ears after they had made a hash of a World Cup match in which they needed a resounding win against unrated opponents. The Finns played above themselves, and equalised early in the second-half before Joe Royle headed a fifty-second minute winner from Mike Channon's centre. Those close to the England camp knew that all was not well between Don Revie and a faction of Football Association officials, who quietly questioned his methods of management and his commercial interests.
