Diary
Friday, 2 November 2018 - Zlato Dalić has
announced his 25-man squad for the finals Nations League matches against Spain
and England. Josip Brekalo has earned his first call-up to the squad. The
Wolfsburg forward, who is among the nominees for the best U21 player in Europe,
has been rewarded for his form for the U21 side. Duje Ćaleta-Car and Nikola
Vlašić have earned recalls, while Ivan Santini, Marko Livaja and Duje Čop have
all been left out. Milan Badelj is involved, despite carrying an injury.
Thursday, 15 November 2018 - Croatia 3 Spain 2:
Croatia gained a dramatic late winner to beat Spain in the Nations League. It
means all three countries can finish top of Group A4, with England taking on
Croatia in the last match on Sunday. Two goals from Tin Jedvaj, including one in
the 93rd minute, gave the World Cup finalists the victory in Zagreb. Andrej
Kramarić scored the hosts' opener, with Spain's goals coming from Dani Ceballos
and Sergio Ramos. Whoever wins at Wembley will finish top of the group and
advance to June's finals, to have a chance of becoming Nations League champions
and also to earn a place at Euro 2020. However, if Sunday's game ends in a draw,
then Spain will finish top. A goalless draw on Sunday would mean England finish
second, with Croatia relegated. A score draw, however, would take Croatia above
England on the head-to-head record - by virtue of having scored more away goals
in the matches between the sides - and drop the Three Lions into the second
tier.
Friday, 16 November 2018 -
Croatia will be without Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitić on Sunday because he
is "not 100%". Rakitić, 30, has returned to his club because of an unspecified
injury. If Croatia win Sunday's game, they will qualify for the semi-finals -
but an England victory will send the Three Lions through to the last four.
Croatia manager Zlatko Dalić said: "We have the solutions and we go to Wembley
to enjoy the football."
