On Friday, 15 November 1952, The New Musical Express published the first ever singles chart in the UK, comprising the twelve highest selling singles of the week, it increased to twenty on Friday, 1 October 1954.
For the first time since the chart was published, England played twice in
one publication. So, when England
lost to France and drew with Spain, Tony Bennett's Stranger In Paradise was the best selling single
for the first week. When the chart of Friday,

published, there were eight surviving songs from the last chart when England played
